It is now over 6 years since we started Escapat. A lot has happened. We have had fires, frosts, major floods and much more to fight against during these years. Still, we have constantly grown, both accommodation and sales of wine. Every year has been an improvement. But how has this year been then?
It has been one of the most difficult years we have had, with many problems of various kinds throughout the year. The water has been our biggest concern this year, which is usually also our biggest source of joy, but this is too much and causing floods both out- and inside! Still, the fields are in good condition, and I think we could get a "all time high" harvest, which would be a fantastic result.
We have continued to employ, now Benoît, who lives in the neighboring village of Caunes. A young guy with an open mind who will help improve the work on the vineyards. Olivier took great responsibility when Berta was away, and he handled it well. Olivier will stay as a consultant for Escapat. Berta got a little girl who is feeling great, and Berta is back part-time on the vineyard. Sophie has replaced Christine in the office and will now make her first annual accounts for us. All in all, the staff situation feels very good at the moment, and I hope we get to work together for many years.
What happens in the future? We will continue to plant nobler grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc and Syrah. The vineyard will increase its proportion of white grapes and we will take away some of the old Carignan & Cinsault vines. We will also refine the fields by removing rows that are short and hard to manage. We adapt the fields to our new way of working.
The renovations in the houses are now completed. It has been a lot of work but the result has been fantastic. We have now increased the capacity from 18 beds to 35. We have built a large wine warehouse with a concrete floor that has a capacity for 20,000 bottles, so we are now ready to increase our sales.
Soon we will also launch a new wine subscription solution for swedish customers where you can choose more freely what you want in your subscription box, as well as which months you want delivery.
